Search ConsoleHow to Read Your Google Search Console Report in 10 Minutes
MM AgroFlow Blog · 5 October 2026 · Harshavardhan Manavalan, Founder · 3 min read
Open the Performance report, check clicks and impressions, scan the top queries and pages, then write down two or three actions. That takes about ten minutes once a week or month, and it does not need technical skills.
Before you start
Search Console is a free Google tool. It shows how your site appears in Search, how many people found it, what terms they used and your average position. You need to verify that you own the site first. Your web developer or website builder can help with this.
The four numbers
Clicks are the number of times someone clicked through to your site from Google Search. Impressions are how many times your site appeared in search results. CTR is click-through rate, which is clicks divided by impressions. Average position is where your site typically appeared, with 1 as the top position.
Google warns that a single position number can mean different things depending on device, search type and screen width. Use it to compare over time, not as a precise score.
The 10-minute routine
Minutes 0 to 2: set the dates. The report shows the last three months by default. Compare a recent period with the previous one. Look at the total clicks and impressions lines. Rising or falling?
Minutes 2 to 4: read the queries. Open the Queries tab. These are the search terms that showed your site. Look for brand searches (your own name) and for product or problem searches. Note terms with many impressions but few clicks. These pages may need a clearer title.
Minutes 4 to 6: read the pages. Open the Pages tab. Which pages get the clicks? Which important pages, such as your best-selling product, get almost no impressions?
Minutes 6 to 8: check countries and devices. Do your customers come from the places you deliver to? If most visitors use mobile phones, check how your pages look on one.
Minutes 8 to 10: write actions. Pick two or three: improve one page title, add a missing answer to a page, or update an old page. Write the date so you can compare later.
Things to keep in mind
Even if a query appears in your report, your site may not show for the same search every time, because results vary with time, location, device and past activity. Data from the last 24 hours is preliminary.
An impression means your link appeared in the results. It does not mean the person read your page, so a high impression count alone proves little.
Google says some changes take effect in a few hours and others take several months. Do not judge a change after two days.
What about AI features?
Google says traffic from its AI features is included in the Performance report under the Web search type. It is not shown as a separate line, so you cannot split it out from normal results.
A simple log
Keep a sheet with four columns: date, total clicks, total impressions, and one action you took. After three months you will see what moved.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good click-through rate?
There is no official benchmark. CTR is clicks divided by impressions, so compare your own pages over time and look for pages with many impressions but few clicks.
Why does my site not appear when I search for a query in the report?
Google notes that results vary by time, location, device and search history, so a query in your report may not show your site every time you search it.
Does Search Console show AI Overview traffic separately?
Google says AI feature traffic is counted in the standard Performance report under the Web search type, with no separate line.
